Week 2.

The Zulu enivorment

The climate of the Zulu community is mainly cold with a lot of thunderstorms mixed into it. A typical day the tempature averages about 28 degrees Celisus. The thunderstorms were not always a good thing for the Zulu tribes. The storms often scared the people so they would not get anything done or even talk to one another during the storms. The physcial adaption is mainly for the women because in the Zulu tribe men are rulers of everything. The women did the work of the house while bowing and respecting their men. Women did the work of keep the home in order and men defended thier home and their wives. The cultural adaption is the living situations. While some live on rural land others moved to urban areas to live. I would classify the Zulu as Hispanic because of the way use the religion and belief of their ancestors. I think as an anthroplogist it would be better to study the culture of the Zulu instead of the phyical adaptions.

  1. I was startled by your identification of the Zulu environment as "cold". If you convert 28 degrees Celsius to Fahrenheit, you get 82 degrees. :-) It is generally pretty hot there.

A physical adaptation is a anatomical or biological expression, such as skin color, hair color, body shape or sweating pattern.

How do the living situations help them adapt to their environment?

Race is generally determined based upon external physical traits. Which do you think is better, to study a population based upon race or upon their adaptations?

    Andean population?
